Herfah at Al Khater House

Overview

The Herfah Program is focused on reviving and promoting traditional crafts deeply rooted in Qatari and Islamic culture. Held at Al Khater House, the program is delivered in collaboration with The King’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts, known for their excellence in teaching and preserving heritage crafts.

This year-long immersive experience runs from September 2025 to May 2026, with classes held Sunday through Thursday, from 9am to 2pm. The program is divided into three full-time terms:
• Term 1 (September to December, 13 weeks): 6 weeks of Foundational Modules covering Islamic Geometry, Nabati Ornamentation, Drawing for Designers, and Traditional Painting, followed by 7 weeks of Craft Modules.
• Term 2 (January to March, 9 weeks): 2 weeks of additional Foundational Modules, followed by 7 weeks of Craft Modules such as Ceramics, Woodwork, Textiles, Gypsum Carving, and Decorative Painting.
• Term 3 (April to May, 9 weeks): Dedicated to final projects that bring together all the skills and knowledge gained throughout the year.

How to Apply:
To apply for the program, please complete the online registration form. Applicants are required to submit a personal statement outlining their interest in the program and sharing relevant background information. They must also complete a mandatory assignment titled “Inspired by Tradition”.

In addition, applicants are encouraged to include a portfolio showcasing any previous creative work.

Once the application is submitted, the Herfah team will review all materials and contact shortlisted candidates for an interview. Successful applicants will be notified and offered a place in the program, along with details on the next steps.

Program Fee:
The program fee is QAR15,000. To support wider access, flexible payment options are available, including monthly installments and a full scholarship (subject to approval).
